It’s time to get back into the swing of things! This map was a quick build in order to practice embedding audio samples (via Spotify) into ArcGIS. I used data from Dr. Snyder’s Burleigh bible to include 13 known instances of Burleigh performing his own work. Each data point is one performance (as opposed to one song), and includes an audio recording of one of the Burleigh pieces sung that day.
The biggest challenge with the curation of this map was figuring out what audio to include. What audio should be used if recordings of Burleigh himself are not available? Even after making this map, I’m not sure what the best answer is. Spotify makes it incredibly easy to embed an audio player into a website. However, the amount of Burleigh recordings on Spotify is limited. There are quite a few Paul Robeson recordings, and a few Marian Anderson ones, but after that the selection is scarce. If we are looking to include audio, maybe including it on the Robeson, Anderson, Hayes map would be our best bet.
If we were to continue with a map like this, I would change it to make it more clear, but it was great practice to get back into the swing of things.
New map!
