As I am starting my first day of CURI, I am really excited not only to learn more about musical geography but also work with a strong and enthusiastic team.
Even though I am not a music major nor have a too deep knowledge of music, I am really fascinated by the relationship that there exists between music, time and space, which I believe is very important towards understanding the origins of music as well as the reasons why certain genres have evolved at specific locations during specific times in history.
One thing that I am particularly interested to learn more about is the way the politics of states or places have somehow influenced the creation and production of certain types music as well as how in some cases they have rather been obstacles towards their production.
Another thing that I hope ti get out of summer research is to better understanding the power of music beyond its aural and aesthetic value, and gain more insight about the different motives of musical artists.
